Automatic Identification System (AIS)

AIS Transceiver Class B

CA-MAR (Communication AIS of Maritime) is a maritime navigation system developed by the BPPT Electronics Technology Center in collaboration with the Navicom Product Development Team.

Automatic Identification System (AIS) is an automatic tracking system used on and with vessel traffic services (VTS) to identify and locate vessels through electronic data exchange with other vessels at barriers, AIS base stations, and satellites.

AIS information complements marine radar, which continues to be the primary method of collision avoidance for water transportation in Indonesia and the world. Information provided by AIS equipment, such as unique identification, position, direction and speed, can be displayed on a display or ECDIS. We also developed an Android-based application, CA-MAR MARITIM 4.0 (Kraftan Anak Bangsa) for AIS displays connected via a Bluetooth interface. AIS is intended to assist ship watchstanding officers and enable maritime authorities to track and monitor vessel movements. AIS integrates a standard VHF transceiver with a positioning system such as GPS.
